Playing in his 200th regular season game for the Broncos Wednesday night, Connor Swystun made an immediate impact in a 2-0 win over the LaRonge Ice Wolves.

The 20 year-old Saskatoon product opened the scoring wrapping around his seventh of the year giving the Broncos a 1-0 lead just 2:05 into the contest. Not only did it give the home team an early lead, the marker stood as the game winner.

Head Coach Darcy Haugan was quick to praise his veteran blueliner on the post game show.

"I've really seen Connor grow here this year as far as the leadership side of things, he is a quiet kid but he's really taken a kid like Xavier Labelle under his wing and just this whole defence core. Just his practice habits and everything like that has been top notch."

Coming into the contest the Broncos were riding a mini two game slide, the fourth line helped them shake that off with some scoring help, Cole Young buried his seventh from Josh Roberts and Dawson Atamanchuk late in the second period. That trio was buzzing in the Wolves zone all night.

"We're very pleased and hopefully they will continue that," Haugan mentioned. "Obviously Dawson and Roberts were flying, that goal they scored was just a great effort off a face-off. They got a good jump, got the loose puck, one the loose puck battle behind the net, were able to find Cole in front, he made no mistake. We need all four lines going."

The Broncos did get into some penalty trouble in the middle period, they gave the the Wolves three straight power-plays including two five-on-three opportunities. The Broncos kept them at bay on all five minors they took.

"That was probably the turning point of the hockey game, it really was," Haugan explained. "I thought we did a good job escaping that and winning some battles."

From there the green and gold turned to their 20 year-old netminder, Garrett Mason who stopped 27 shots for his second shutout of the campaign.

"Let's not forget about Mason, I thought there was some good scoring chances they had and he was dialed in, you could see the look in his eyes," Haugan chimed.

That's win number 22 on the year for the Okotoks product. Luke Lush was superb in LaRonge's net as well, the 18 year-old made 35 saves in the loss.

Humboldt didn't score on their man advantages either, they had four.

Next up for the Broncos is a trip to Nipawin Friday, the Battlefords await on Saturday night. Both games begin at 7:30, the pre-game show on your radio begins at 7:15.

In the lone other Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League contest Wednesday, Melville doubled Kindersley 4-2.
