If there is a way to lose hockey games, the Humboldt Broncos are finding it these days.

On a night in Melville where their power play was 3/5, they got some much deserved offence and their penalty killing showed one blemish in nine tests, it was giving up four goals in the final 7:21 that was their demise Saturday against the Millionaires.

The Broncos blew a 5-2 lead in the third and were left shaking their heads seeing a 6-5 Mils' win on the scoreboard at the Horizon Credit Union Centre.

In reality the green and gold book ended a pretty solid effort. The Mils jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first before Daniel Mckitrick stepped out from behind the Melville net snapping it under the cross bar past Brandon Wells cutting the lead to 2-1 later in the opening period giving Humboldt life. Wesley Shipton and Greg Moro picked up the assists on Mckitrick's seventh goal.

That led to a second that was all Broncos, Anthony Kapelke slapped his third past Wells just 1:25 into the middle stanza, that from Corey Dambrauskas and Trevor Posch, Shipton then slid a rebound past Wells opening a 3-2 Bronco lead. Kapelke and Dambrauskas earned the helpers on Shipton's third goal. Those were both power-play goals.

Michael Korol snapped his third past Wells making it 4-2 Humboldt late in the frame from Tristan Hermanson and Rock Ruschkowski.

They didn't quit to open the third either, Shipton scored on another power-play finding another rebound for his fourth and a 5-2 Humboldt lead. Moro and Posch each added their second points on the goal.

Everything was fine past the halfway point and then some penalty problems for the Broncos. They took five straight minors leading to a pair of 5-on-3 advantages which overall they only allowed Jake Tesarowski to beat Brett Clark making it 5-3. That goal came at the 12:39 mark.

The derailment ensued, Tyler Kreklewich went end to end making it 5-4 with 3:34 remaining, that preceded Tyson Predinchuk tying the game at the 18:24 mark completing the comeback.

At that point you would hope to just keep it tied and go to overtime but the implosion was completed in regulation when Christian Stevens beat Clark with 45 seconds left to put the Mils up for good handing Humboldt their 12th loss in 21 contests.

"I think that's all it was, it is unbelievable right now," Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko said on the post-game show of KMK Sales Broncos' hockey. "I'm at a loss for words myself, that's a tough one for sure, obviously. That sucks."

Clark ended with 40/46 on the night as he suffered his fifth loss. Wells was pulled after Korol's goal after stopping 15/19, Josh Bykowski came on in relief making 11/12 stops and collecting his first win of the year.

"When we start sagging we're finding ways to lose," Klimosko continued. "We're not thinking the game properly, if your hands and your feet aren't going you have to make sure you are thinking properly and we're not."

The Broncos are 6-12-3 on the season and have slipped into 11th in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League standings.

Klimosko said the need to fix what is occurring before it's too late.

"We've got to find a way to do it, that's all 20 guys, the coaching staff, that's everyone. I don't know how, obviously if it was that easy to take a seminar we would be there for it. We just need to finds ways to win, it's not good, I don't know what else to say."

The Broncos will now have almost a week to regroup, they host the Flin Flon Bombers Friday at the Elgar Petersen Arena.
