Brayden Camrud scored midway through overtime, as the Humboldt Broncos won their season opener, downing the Notre Dame Hounds 3-2.

Camrud was sent in all alone on a nice over the top feed from Logan Schatz and beat Hounds goalie Jacob Standen for the winner at 2:28 of the extra frame.

It was a good ending to an exciting game for the Broncos and their faithful, which saw many chances throughout the game, with Standen holding his own for most of the contest in the Notre Dame goal.

Equally up to the task was Broncos starter Sam-Jaxon Visscher, who stopped 21 of 23 shots faced in his regular season debut with the green and gold to earn the win.

With plenty of new players in the fold, that was a bit of a theme for Humboldt, as Kaleb Dahlgren got the scoring started at 15:11 of the opening period on the man advantage.

The Hounds had led 2-1 through two periods before another Broncos newbie hit the scoresheet.

Graysen Cameron, a product of Olds, Alberta, found the net on a nice feed from Matthieu Gomercic to bring the Broncos back to even with just over eight minutes left in regulation.

Cameron's first goal in the SJHL will be remembered, after linemate Derek Patter scooped up the puck and handed it to the bench for a keepsake for the 18-year-old.

After some chances in the final minutes, the full 60 minutes solved nothing, leading to the 3-on-3 extra frame.

With the open ice, the Broncos used their speed to control the puck and the tempo for most of the overtime session, before Camrud's eventual winner.

The Broncos found themselves with the man advantage quite a bit in the game, having eight power plays in total, with Dahlgren's goal being the lone one scored with the extra man.

Defensively, they kept it clean on the penalty kill, denying the Hounds on four chances, including one brief 11 second power play.

In a traditional Saturday/Sunday season-opening series, the Broncos will head down the highway to Wilcox on Sunday afternoon for their first road contest of the season.

Faceoff at the Duncan McNeill Arena will be 6:00pm.
