For the first time this season, the Humboldt Broncos lost in a shootout, falling 3-2 at home to the Battlefords North Stars.

The end result was similar to that of the first meeting of the season between the two teams on October 3, when the North Stars won 3-2, albeit in overtime at the Civic Centre.

One of the SJHL's leading scorers got the Stars on the scoresheet in the first period, when Layne Young deposited his 11th goal of the season on a loose puck infront of the net.

The Broncos would quickly tie the game back up, with Conner Lukan scoring on the power play just 2:31 after Battlefords took the initial lead.

Throughout most of the night the goaltenders stole the show, with Broncos starter Jacob Wassermann ending with 34 saves on 36 shots faced. The Stars' Kolby Matthews made 39 saves on 41 shots faced.

Scoring resumed in the third period after a break in the middle frame.

MacGregor Sinclair put the Stars back infront on a power play tally for his ninth goal of the season.

The Broncos scored their second goal on the man advantage with 4:07 left in regulation. Logan Schatz buried a one-time feed from Logan Boulet to even the game.

Although there were chances in overtime, the Broncos were unable to slip the puck past Matthews, which led to the one-on-one skills battle.

In the shootout, Sinclair scored the lone goal on either side to give the Stars the win.

Brayden Camrud, Schatz and Lukan had the shootout attempts for Humboldt.

The Broncos return to the ice on Friday when they visit Melville for a 7:30pm faceoff. The next game at the Elgar Petersen Arena comes Tuesday, November 7, when Kindersley visits.

November is National Diabetes Month, and the Broncos are collecting loose change at all home games throughout the month. Money will then be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

In addition, the Dahlgren's Diabeauties campaign is underway. Humboldt's Duke Brochu was the first Diabeauty to meet Kaleb Dahlgren and to drop the puck on a ceremonial faceoff pre-game.
