This Saturday will be a special one for the sports community in Humboldt and area, for a handful of reasons.

The Humboldt Mohawks play host to the 9 Man Provincial Football final against Lumsden, and the team will wear their hearts on their sleeves. Not only will they be playing in memory of their former coach, Tyler Bieber and equipment manager/ team statistician, Brody Hinz, but also for another pillar of the community recently lost. Elgar Petersen, who passed away on the weekend of November 3rd was a household name here in Humboldt, and the community hopes to honour all three individuals in the best way Humboldt knows how- through sports.

The Humboldt Broncos Hockey Team, along with coaching staff, will be in attendance. After the game, an Honour Guard ceremony will take place as well as the teams will be available for interaction with the public. Penny Lee, Communications Manager with the City of Humboldt, explains the importance of showing tribute to these three amazing individuals who have left such a positive impact on our community.

"It means a tremendous amount, because of Elgar's participation as a volunteer with the Bronco's organization," said Lee. "Elgar really was the namesake of the arena, and the amount of respect the boys as well as the coaching staff have for him is not measurable by words."

Kick-off for the game is at 1:00 pm, right here in Humboldt at Glen Hall Park. The green and gold will be worn proudly beside the white and blue.
