Back to back impressive starts for the Humboldt Broncos in pre-season Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action.

Friday night, in their first home contest at the Elgar Petersen Arena of the exhibition portion of the schedule they came back to beat the Battleford Stars 3-2.

After going down 1-0 in the first period they got goals from Kyle Craddock and Andrew Thompson in the middle stanza and Daniel McKitrick notched the game winner in the third. Both Craddock and McKitrick have a pair of goals, Thompson has three in his last two games. McKitrick set Thompson up with a beautiful pass in the slot that the Lethbridge product rifled upstairs to give the crowd something to cheer for as they took the second period lead.

Broncos' Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko mentioned after the game how well he thought their group played.

"Some good teaching points, I thought we came out really slow, it was nice to see us battle back there in the second. Scored some big goals, any time you can beat a division rival and they're a pretty strong team. By far the hardest game we've had to play in exhibition, it was a good game for us tonight."

Aside from goals from all 18 year-olds, 1997 born netminder Josh Weber made 36 saves for the win. That was the East Grand Forks, Montana product's first action since allowing two goals on 14 shots in Nipawin in their opening game Tuesday night.

Klimosko liked what he saw in the Broncos' crease.

"He held his own, he looked big in there, he made the saves that he needed to. Both the goals you can't fault him for so good for him, it's nice to see for sure."

Humboldt will finish the pre-season Sunday night at home versus Melfort, Saturday night they are in the Battlefords to meet the Stars again.

Klimosko says more structure and preparation will find it's way into the last two games.

"We're talking about concentrating more on our special teams, we're going to start getting our power-play units and things going Saturday. We're only a week away from the regular season so we've got to start working on these things."

You can hear the game live from the Battlefords with the pre-game show of KMK Sales Limited Broncos' hockey beginning at 7:15. Face-off is 7:30.
