The Broncos picked up their 2nd win in a row and 1st on home ice Saturday against division rival Battlefords Northstars.

After defeating Notre Dame on the road earlier in the week the Broncos came Into the EPA with added moxie and used that to open the scoring for the second straight game.

Once again it was Brayden Camrud who opened up the scoring. A scrum of bodies came together in front of Northstars goalie Joel Grybowski. Grybowski was unable to secure the loose puck which allowed Camrud to chip it through his arms and into the back of the net to give the Broncos the 1-0 lead heading into the first break.

In the second period, it was the other returning player in Derek Patter who entered the high slot and shot the puck across the grain low blocker side to extend the lead to two. This was Patter’s first of the season. Penalty trouble caused the Broncos to cough up the lead as Battlefords would score two goals with the man advantage courtesy of Matthias Urbanski and MacGregor Sinclair. However, when it was 5 on 5 play the Broncos looked too fast for the Northstars to keep up.

With just over 5 minutes remaining in the second frame, Humboldt defenseman Chase Felgeuiras joined the rush taking a beautiful touch pass from Derek Patter before squeezing it in-between the post and Gyrzbowski to give the Broncos their lead back.

Book-ending the goal scoring would be Brayden Camrud who picked up his second of the game and third on the season late into the second period. Humboldt would ride Dane Dow and solid defensive play the rest of the way. Dow finished with 23 saves on 25 shots. The Broncos now get back to .500 with two straight divisional wins and look to make it three straight against Estevan on Tuesday, September 25th.
