The night before we witnessed a sold out crowd pack into the Baytex Energy Arena to honor the 29 members of the Broncos who were on the bus on April 6th. We witnessed the Humboldt Broncos skate on to the ice for the first time, wearing the white Humboldt Broncos jerseys proudly with their hearts full. We witnessed teammates united, standing along the blue line for a moment of silence and a ceremonial puck drop with Darcey Haugan`s wife Christina and their two kids Carson and Jackson. And we witnessed the power the sport of hockey has to bring people together.

Tonight was no different, back at the sold out Baytex Energy Center in Peace River, Alberta for the final game of the Humboldt Broncos trip to the city where their late coach Darcy Haugan was born and coached for 12 years with the North Prairie Navigators.

The game opened up fast. The Grande Prairie Storm, who are very close to their opening day roster, scored two goals within 30 seconds apart from each other to jump out to an early two goal lead. However, the Broncos would not let that dictate the game as goals from Joseph Santalucia and Jackson Kobelka on the powerplay would tie the game up at two a piece. Grande Prairie centerman Alex Nordstrom would score one of his two goals in the game before the first frame ended to put the Storm up by one heading into the dressing room. This would be a sign of things to come as the high scoring action would continue into the second.

Grande Prairie`s Jordan Power would strike a few minutes into the midde period to restore the two goal lead for the Storm. The back and fourth goal scoring would continue as Humboldt and Grande Prairie would alternate the next three goals. The Storms goal tucked home by Nathan Morgan which was sandwiched by two Broncos` goals by Chad McIlwain and Riker Franczek. At the end of 40 minutes Grande Prairie would again take a one goal lead into the final frame.

The third period is where Grande Prairie kicked it into another gear, scoing four consecutive goals to go up 9-4. Late in the third, Franczek would add another goal for the Broncos but it was too late as the damage was done by the Grande Prairie Storm

Overall, over the course of two games in Peace River, the Humboldt Broncos, who are still working on their opening day roster, were more than competitive in what was an emotional, entertaining pair of Junior A hockey games. It was a touching tribute for the late Head Coach Darcy Haugan and the 28 other Humboldt Broncos, who were in everyone`s hearts this weekend.
