It was a coach's nightmare, a track meet.

The Humboldt Broncos had prided themselves on their team speed. However, it was the way they used their speed with recognition on the defensive side of the puck which made them so successful. Strong positioning on the lines, combined with transitional speed up the ice, would stifle the opposition's forwards entering the zone, then, in turn, force their defenders back on their heels.

The Broncos, prior to this, had held their opponents to 13 goals in 8 combined games. The Terriers managed to grab 60% of that season total in one game and came away with an 8-7 overtime victory.

The game had the excitement that's for sure, but its the type of pace that drives coaches mad. Turnovers at bluelines, odd-man rushes galore, and little to no defensive structure. However, there were some positives to pull out of the game. The Broncos found themselves down multiple times, at one point by three goals, and came back to tie the game. The had to contend with one of the most offensively gifted players in the league in Jared Leigien, and a few Broncos did have their best offensive game of the season as well.

The first period was back and forth for the first 5 goals, alternating tallies until the end of the opening frame. The shots on goal would well favor the Terriers who would go into the break outshooting the Broncos 16-5, with a 3-2 lead.

In the second period,  it was the home team who looked to be hungrier. Two goals early in the second would give them a three-goal cushion. This, however,  is where some positivity can be taken from the game. The Broncos pushed back in the latter half of the period to tie the game up with three straight goals, The two teams would take a 5-5 score into the dressing room after 40 minutes.

At this point, the track meet was clearly on. A goal from the Terriers 11 minutes into the final frame gave them their lead back. Immediately the Broncos would answer, just over a minute later off the stick of Brayden Camrud, one of his 5 points on the night. Riker Franczek who scored his first career SJHL goal in the first period, and his second career SJHL goal in the second period, would complete the hat-trick and give the Broncos their first lead of the night with just over 5 minutes remaining. Cue Jared Legien, who would tuck in a rebound for his 4th goal of the game with 37 seconds remaining, and to overtime we went.

It didn't take long in overtime as the Broncos, who were 1-0 in the extra frame so far on the season, would turn the puck over at the Terriers blue line. That would lead to a breakaway for Chantz Petruic, who slid it between the legs of Dane Dow to end the Broncos six-game winning streak.

Positively thinking, with the point secured in overtime, the Broncos find themselves siting alone in 1st place in the SJHL. However, it's safe to say that this is a game that Head Coach Nathan Oystrick and Co. will surely want to wipe from their memories.
