It was a full house with 1,199 in attendance at Centennial Arena in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. An emotional start for game one of the Canalta Cup Final Championship Series the evening of Saturday, April 14th.

A moment of silence was held prior to the game in order to honour of the victims of the collision that took place a week before and to thank local first responders.

The Nipawin Hawks and Estevan Bruins stood shoulder to shoulder, skates planted around the centre circle, alternating teams as a symbol of unity.

Once each team paid their respects by reflecting on recent events, it was time to play for the Humboldt Broncos.

Kaelan Holt, Jayden Davis, and Arthur Miller scored, with Zach Goberis and Michael McChesney added the empty netters to guarantee the win.

Bo Didur made 41 saves on 43 shots as Estevan won 5-2. For the Hawks, Josh McDougal and Jordan Simoneau each found the back of the net.

Estevan continues their perfect road playoff record and scored a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Game two will take place on Sunday, April 15.
