With a new hockey season slowly approaching, Skate Humboldt is preparing for the beginning of their programs.

One of those programs is CanPowerSkate, which is currently accepting registrations.

Coordinator Larry Durand says that it is slightly more advanced and designed towards players.

"It goes through skating skills that are beneficial for hockey and ringette players," he noted. "We expect any players who join to have skating skills before joining. It is not a learn to skate program."

CanPowerSkate is a high energy instructional program which will focus on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance.

Skate Humboldt also offers a CanSkate learn to skate program for those less advanced.

Durand says that Rhett Blackmur is joining the program as one of the coaches.

"He played three years for the Broncos not too long ago and continues to play senior hockey. He is also coaching the AA Midget program this year."

He added that returning to instruct is Chelsea Wytrykusz.

"This will be her third year with the program. She is a great skater and has excellent skills."

Registration is ongoing until August 24, with more information and details available through Skate Humboldt's website.
