The Saskatoon Cubs scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, as they became the new Midget AAA provincial champions, defeating the Muenster Red Sox 7-5.

The emotional roller coaster saw the Cubs score four runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.

Starter Blake Pongracz ran into trouble in the fourth inning, walking four straight batters. An error and a Tyler McWillie double saw the Red Sox take a 5-4 lead through four.

Saskatoon was able to tie the game with one out in the seventh on a single up the middle by Brody Vogel. Two more runs scored on a base hit from Eric McNeilly.

Morgan Gobeil drew a lead off walk to become the bottom half of the inning, but the Red Sox were unable to generate any runs, hitting into a double play, followed by a ground out to end the game.

Red Sox starter Brody Frerichs pitched six innings for Muenster, striking out seven batters. Jordan Frey picked up the win in relief for the Cubs, allowing only two hits and no runs over three innings.

The Cubs advance to the National Championship, which will be played out in London, Ontario, while the Red Sox and Saskatoon Diamondbacks head to Ile des Chenes and Steinbach, Manitoba for the Western Canadian Championship.

Westerns run from August 10 to 13.

Earlier in the day, the Red Sox defeated the Saskatoon Diamondbacks 10-0 in five innings to advance to the championship game.
