The Two horse race ran its final leg between the Humboldt Broncos and the Melfort Mustangs, with the Mustangs pulling ahead by a nose to a 5-4 overtime victory.

The Broncos fell down into an early 0-1 hole, but goals from Reid Arnold and Mark Edmands put them up 2-1 heading into the second period.

In the second, Melfort’s league-best power play went to work to the tune of two goals. At the end of 40 minutes, it was the visiting horse running away with the lead.

The Mustangs scored the opening goal in the final frame to double their lead to 4-2 and looked to run hard through the finish line. However, the Broncos found a second wind with goals from Bryson Cecconi and Chase Felgueiras to tie the game and force overtime.

In the extra frame, it wasn’t the Broncos night. Zach Anderson received a pass on a two on one and put it passed Rayce Ramsay for the 5-4 victory.

The Broncos have 3 games left in the regular season and it’s anyone’s guess who their partner will be in the playoff dance.

Up next is a big divisional meeting against the Kindersley Klippers on Sunday, February 24th
