It was a tough race for Humboldt's William Dutton Friday morning, as he competed at the 2017 World Single Distance Speed Skating Championships.

Taking place in Gangneung, South Korea as a test event for next year's Pyeongchang Olympics, Dutton was competing in the 500-metre race.

He finished in 15th place, with a time of 35.07 seconds.

A result that he was quite displeased with, according to a post on his Twitter account after the race.

"Extremely disappointed by my race today. Sorry to all who've supported me. I will not let this happen next year. Prepared to win and execute," he stated.

'Next year', would of course be the Olympics, where he looks to also better a 14th place finish at the Sochi Games in 2014.

Dutton's personal best time of 34.25 seconds is third best among those who were competing in Gangneung.
