The Humboldt Broncos exploded for five first period goals and found themselves back in the win column for the first time in six games, defeating the Yorkton Terriers 8-3 on Saturday night.

Conner Lukan got the scoring started with his 6th goal of the season, which came less than two minutes in to the hockey game.

The Terriers responded less than three minutes later before the Broncos took a 2-1 lead on Brayden Camrud's power play tally midway through the opening period.

Lukan's second goal of the game put Humboldt up 3-1, with the Terriers pushing back just 14 seconds later. The Broncos quickly went back to work offensively, scoring two goals in just nine seconds, 1:01 after the Terriers climbed within one goal.

Defenseman Bryce Fiske made it 4-2 for Humboldt, with Jaxon Joseph scoring immediately after to put the green and gold up 5-2 through 20 minutes.

Scoring hit the brakes for the next 23 minutes before Quinton Hobbs brought Yorkton back to a two goal deficit with 30 seconds to play in the middle frame.

The Broncos put an end to any comeback thoughts of the Terriers early in the third period, with Camrud scoring his second of the night just 2:20 into the third period.

Two minutes later, Morgan Gobeil scored his first career SJHL goal to give Humboldt a four goal cushion.

The Humboldt product and first-year Bronco noted that he was in the right place at the right time.

"Got a few chances to wack at it and got it to go in," he explained. "Definitely a weight off the shoulders and a load off the mind to get it out of the way."

Gobeil added that he had some extra family members in attendance on Saturday night and it felt good to get his first one at home.

Graysen Camerson was credited with Humboldt's 8th goal with nine minutes left in the game.

Sam-Jaxon Visscher earned the win in net for the Broncos, stopping 23 of 26 shots faced for his 5th victory of the season.
