Former Humboldt Broncos' defenseman Greg Moro has committed to Clarkson University.

The 20 year-old Edmonton product spent two and a half seasons in Humboldt before being moved to the RBC Cup hosts, the Lloydminster Bobcats in the Alberta Junior Hockey League on December 1st.

He said it's been a hectic the past few days.

"It's definitely a busy week, I had a few schools take huge interest but where my heart was, it was with Clarkson. It was good to lock things up there, it's been a stressful week. Phone calls here and there trying to figure out everything, I think all in all it's going to be good."

Moro arrived in Humboldt as an 18 year-old rookie joining a strong core on the Broncos' blueline led by Logan Sproule and David Stumborg but once they graduated after a run to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League semi-final the back end was clearly the 6'5" rear guards to lead. That he did, in 53 games as a 19 year-old he collected five goals and 22 assists, that made him the second highest scoring defenseman among 1995 born players. He also accomplished that while playing 30 minutes a night and shutting down other teams top lines.

However, with the Broncos' fortunes not looking optimistic in his final year of eligibility, Moro requested a trade and that was granted to the Bobcats. The transition wasn't seamless as it took Moro some time to adapt to the AJHL game. He did, then came a knee injury that sidelined him for a month, many thought longer. None of that stood in his way of returning or a universities way of recruiting him.

"I never accepted the reality on that part, I know it was an injury that was looking at setting me back until RBC but in my mind I think I should be able to make it back by playoffs. I was counting the days and all that, I never really accepted what the trainers and doctors were saying, somehow my body decided to listen to me instead of them."

He returned for one game of their first round sweep of Drayton Valley, he played all four games of the Bobcats sweep of Whitecourt, he has two goals and two assists in those five games. Moro and his Bobcat teammates are getting set to meet Spruce Grove Saints in the north division finals.

Despite the increased scouting presence and exposure in the border city, he is still quick to credit his time in Humboldt for his success and commitment to the division 1 program.

"Every piece helps, there is really no one thing you can attribute anything to so it's definitely a big part in my past now. I appreciate everything they did for me in Humboldt, the community, the team, it was awesome."

In his two and a half seasons in green and gold, he played 142 games, he had 12 goals and 40 assists.

He also becomes the first Bronco to join an NCAA division 1 school since goaltender Matt Hrynkiw began playing at the University of North Dakota following the 2012-13 season.
