What a Summer on the ball diamond for Muenster's Brody Frerichs.

The 16 year-old collected silver medals at the Baseball Canada Cup as well as at the Western Canada Summer Games before finally getting over the hump and picking up gold at the Tournament 12 in Toronto.

This was his second appearance with Team Prairies in Toronto, he admitted going to the mound was much easier this time around.

"The first time I pitched last year I was beyond nervous," he said Sunday afternoon. "I could barely breathe even on the mound, I was shaking. This year a little more experience, I knew what to expect, I had been there before. I just relaxed a little bit more and I did a lot better."

That he did, versus Team Atlantic in a must win game, Frerichs dominated pitching a complete game over seven innings, allowing three hits and just one run. He struck out six batters along the way. Frerichs also got into a game in relief for the Saskatchewan and Manitoba team which went 3-1 in the round robin before battling through two playoff games en route to the championship.

They downed Team Atlantic 8-1 in their first game, that was followed by a 3-2 win over Quebec. They lost their only game of the tournament 4-1 to Team Futures before the Frerichs pitched game against Atlantic that they won 3-1. They then went on to down Ontario 5-2 in the semi-final. They nipped Quebec in the final 1-0.

Frerichs is in grade 11 at Muenster School and will continue to play regularly for the AAA Midget Red Sox but he admits he is starting to think about his baseball future.

"Obviously Major League Baseball would be the best but I'm going to first see if I can get a college scholarship and I will just take it one step at a time and see where I end up."

One of his teammates has already made that jump being Nick Anderson. Frerichs said it's not an accident they are able to field a AAA caliber team in a community the size of Muenster.

"I'd love to thank Chad Hofmann, my baseball coach," Frerichs beamed. "He's been coaching me ever since I can remember, he does so much for everybody he coaches it's unreal. He goes that extra mile for everybody to help them out and he does everything he can, he does an unreal job for Muenster baseball."

Up next for Frerichs is a showcase tournament in Phoenix, Arizona with Team Saskatchewan, that will take place in October.
