The Humboldt Broncos picked up their first win of the season on the road in Wilcox, Saskatchewan against the Notre Dame Hounds.

A 60-minute effort was preached by head coach Nathan Oystrick after dropping two in a row against the defending champ Nipawin Hawks.  On Olympic sized ice surface Wednesday night at Duncan McNeil arena that's exactly what the team put forth.

Bookended by goals from Brayden Camrud and Owen Guenter the Broncos rode a 34 save shutout performance on route to a 2-0 victory to add a notch in the win column.

The gameplan was to get out to a strong start against the Hounds who use their wide ice surface to their advantage. Que assistant captain Brayden Camrud who took a neutral zone feed from Zach McIntyre across the blue line and roofed it high above the blocker of Riley Kohonick 55 seconds into the game to get the start the Broncos were looking for.

Kohonick who was pulled in his first game for the Hounds after allowing 4 goals on 6 shots, looked to be off to a shaky start in his second game. He would end up settling in nicely and holding the hounds in for the entirety of the game

The middle frame was where a lapse in control lead to the Broncos suffering defeats in the first two games. This time the Broncos tightened up to allow goaltender Dane Dow to see all the pucks that came his way and cleared rebounds away that were left in front. 40 minutes down and Humboldt would carry the same 1-0 lead into the third.

Again as the Hounds were outshooting the Broncos throughout the final frame, the Broncos stayed well positioned in between the dots, allowing most of the shots to come from the outside.

As the Hounds were attempting a late-game push, Notre Dame head coach Phil Roy was moments away from pulling the goalie for an extra attacker. At that moment Owen Guenter took the pass in the neutral zone from Michael Clarke carried it in around two defenders and wristed a shot over the glove of Kohonick. This would double the lead and give the Broncos the cushion they needed to ride the final minute and a half out and capture their first victory of the season.

The road victory now gives the Broncos that extra boost of confidence they need before heading back home on Saturday to take on the Battlefords North Stars.
