The Nipawin Hawks scored four goals in the first period and went on to defeat the Humboldt Broncos 6-3 on Saturday night.

It was the second straight night that the Hawks skated away to a win over the green and gold, after winning 7-5 in Humboldt on Friday.

Brett Harasymuk got the scoring started at 7:48 of the first period on a power play goal. Less than two minutes later, Jake Tremblay found the back of the net to make it 2-0 for the home team.

Much like Friday's game saw, the next two goals would come almost instantly.

Jordan Simoneau scored his fourth goal of the season at 12:35 of the period and then 20 seconds later, made it 4-0.

Late in the period, the Broncos were able to kill off a 5-on-3 situation to avoid seeing the deficit increase ahead of the intermission.

The middle frame began with more of the same, however, as Keillan Olson scored Nipawin's second power play goal of the game just 1:10 into the period.

Humboldt - much like Friday - started to dig in and gain some traction back in the game during the second half of the period, which eventually led to Logan Schatz scoring with 38 seconds left in the period to cut the Hawks lead to 5-1.

Hometown product Jacob Leicht scored his first career goal at 7:11 of the third period, on a nice feed from linemate Blake Berschiminsky.

Nipawin would bring the Broncos comeback attempt to a crashing halt 51 seconds later, when Olson scored his second goal of the game.

Schatz added his second marker of the night with five minutes left. The goal came on the power play, which ended a long Broncos drought on the man advantage.

Prior to the Schatz goal, Humboldt had not scored with the extra man since their first goal of the season on September 15.

With the loss, the Broncos record is now 4-4-1 through nine games. They will look to secure their fifth win of the season on Wednesday, October 11, when they host Flin Flon.

It will be the first of three games in four days for the Broncos, who visit Melfort on October 13, and then host the Mustangs the following night at the Elgar Petersen Arena.
