Some of Saskatchewan's best men's curling teams will be in Humboldt this weekend looking to book a spot in the provincial Tankard.

The Goldline Saskatchewan Players Championship will run from Friday to Sunday at the Humboldt Curling Club.

With already four teams solidifying their place at the Saskatchewan finals to be played in Kindersley later this Winter, after this bonspiel a fifth team will be qualified.

"I've been trying to get this thing for about seven or eight years and we finally got it this year so I'm really excited," HCC Icemaker Kevin Kalthoff said Tuesday. "We've got most of the Saskatchewan men's teams here that want to be in provincials and should be in provincials so they're all coming, it's going to be a great event."

Games get underway at 6 o'clock Friday with a full slate of games from the 16 team field, the second draw is scheduled for 9pm.

Kalthoff is very pleased with the field, including some prior Brier attendees and some local flavour as well.

"Scott Bitz who went to the Brier in 2002, Jason Jacobson lost the provincial final last year to Steve Laycock, Jeff Hartung has been in the provincial final four I think the last three years. Bruce Korte, everybody knows about him around here. He's got probably the best team he's had in a while, he's got a really good team."

The final is slated for Sunday afternoon at 4pm.

Tickets are $20 for the weekend or $10/day, 12 and under is free.
