January 1st, 2019 is the start of a new head coach for the Humboldt Broncos.

Scott Barney, previous Assistant Coach, will take over as interim Head Coach for the remainder of the season. Troy Smith will take the position as Assistant Coach for the remainder of the year.

Smith, was most recently the Head Coach of the Saginaw Spirit in the Ontario Hockey League. Smith started his career with the Kitchener Rangers where he spent nine years, two as head coach and seven as an assistant, winning the OHL Championship in 2008. Smith has represented Canada seven times internationally. Five times he has been an Assistant Coach with the U17 Program, twice as Head Coach, and once as Video Coach of the 2009 team Canada U18 Team. 

Troy is excited to be a part of the Bronco organization, "I am thankful that Scott has provided me this opportunity. I am excited and energized to get to know our players and join the Humboldt community. We have a lot of work to be done in a short amount of time and am really looking forward to an exciting second half."
