It wouldn't paint even half the picture by just looking at the score.

The Broncos who haven't lost in regulation in 7 straight games came into Weyburn with the correct mindset. A track meet similar to the game in Yorkton was not on the agenda. They wanted to get back the strong defensive system that was so successful throughout the second half of September.

The game tonight could be explained in two words, or names I should say. Riley Lamb.

Who is that? You might ask.

The goaltender for the Weyburn Red Wings who is playing his first season in the SJHL.

Oh a rookie?

Well if you consider a 20 year old with 2 years of WHL experience a rookie.

Riley Lamb hasn't been seasoning his game as a backup in the SJHL. He isn't a touted youngster coming from AAA. No he's been facing elite competition from some of the best junior hockey players in the world for the last two years with the Red Deer Rebels. He was the reason the Broncos didn't leave Weyburn with two points.

Period by period the recaps usually go. However, the first goal wasn't scored until 39:47 into the game.

The Red Wings flexed their muscles that is the league's best powerplay and Jordan Kazymyra scored with 13 seconds remaining in the middle frame. It really would be the only goal needed.

The third period saw the Broncos pour shots to the net, including one that will be talked as the save of the year for any goaltender in the SJHL.
Lamb, with his team shorthanded, and lying on the ice absolutely robbed Micheal Clarke, point blank, of the game tying goal with a phantom glove save that came out of nowhere.

Thats the story in a nutshell. And describing the save in words doesn't do it justice.

The Broncos held the Red wings to two shots in the 3rd period. One of them was the empty net goal. Humboldt outshot Weyburn 40-19 in the game.

So looking at the score all you see is a loss.
The Broncos, however, will look deeper than that, and can pull multiple positives out of this game as they move forward.

The two hour rule, as coaches say, means you focus on the game for two hours. Then move on to the next game and the task at hand. This factors in even more as the Broncos next test is the following night when they travel to Estevan for a rematch with the Bruins.
