The Humboldt Hammerheads were in Biggar on Saturday for Semi-Finals.

They did their best to qualify for the Provincial Finals in Estevan July 28.

140 athletes from all of the Northern clubs were present in Biggar, 36 swimmers took to the water for Humboldt, and all 36 accomplished the goal of qualifying.

The top 6 swimmers from the North will face off against the top 6 swimmers from the South per event during the Provincial Finals taking place next weekend.  Provincial Finals is the last competition of the summer swimming season and each swimmer will have the chance to earn a medal in their individual races and relays.

Some of the athletes swam races they haven’t faced before, while others proceeded to take time off of races and swim their personal best.  With every swimmer qualifying, it gives them a few more days to work on details.

Aggregate medals were handed out in Biggar, as well as trophies for the top male and female athlete per age group.  Winners from Humboldt were:

Rebecca Gabriel – Bronze 7-8 girls

Aidra Angelstad – Bronze 9-10 girls

Abbey McLarty – Silver 9-10 girls

Sophia Babagonio – Gold 9-10 girls

Ashley Hinz – Silver 11-12 girls

Charlize Parish – Silver 13-14 girls

Darren Romanuik – Silver 13-14 boys

Lauren Hinz – Gold 15-17 girls

Gabe Babagonio – 15-17 boys

By the end of the day, the Hammerheads had earned enough points to finish first among the clubs to win the meet.  Humboldt generated 581 points on the day, finishing first.  Saskatoon came in second with 311 points and Nipawin finished off the top 3 with 268 points.
