This past weekend at the Humboldt Curling Club Dustin Kalthoff returned home as his season with Jason Jacobson continues.

The Saskatoon based rink came up just short falling in the final to Brad Heidt of the Bella Vista Inn Classic but for the Humboldt born and raised curler coming home is always nice.

"Absolutely, I mean it's my hometown, parents still live here, I come back here lots of times just to visit them for holidays and that sort of thing. Obviously growing up here Humboldt means a lot to me so it's wonderful to be back here to play the spiel every year, it's a real treat."

With the loss in the final at the HCC they did secure enough points on the Sask Curling Tour to punch their ticket to the provincial playdowns in Tisdale in early February.

Overall he says their season is on track leading into the Tankard.

"We're doing pretty good, we won an event in Medicine Hat which is a feather in our caps for sure."

Kalthoff is also a well established mixed doubles curler. He had the chance to represent Canada at the World Championships in Sweden last spring, an accomplishment he says is still sinking in.

"It has and it hasn't, it's still like a surreal dream. It's kind of hard to fully take in, you come back here and live a normal life. That was a pretty special experience so yeah surreal is the right word."

The Tankard takes place from February 1st-5th.

You can hear more from Kalthoff below in his interview with Bolt FM's Clark Stork.

Editor's note, Kalthoff was interview Saturday of the BVI Classic, they only learned this week they earned enough tour points for an automatic birth into the Tankard.
