The Broncos suffered their first loss in regulation in eight games on Wednesday night, falling 4-2 to La Ronge.

Humboldt jumped out to a quick start, recording the game's first five shots before La Ronge was able to get their game going.

Head Coach Darcy Haugan says that execution was off for his team.

"It felt like it had one of those feels," he noted. "You look at the time of possession and it was 30 minutes in their zone versus 20 in ours. We had four or five posts, and we just didn't executive offensively. We let a scrappy bunch hang around."

Nolan Dawson gave La Ronge a 1-0 lead with 5:24 left in the first period.

Humboldt would make it 1-1 through two periods on an early second period tally from Layne Matechuk, who scored for the third straight game he has played in.

It was a light night for penalties, with just one against the Broncos, and four for La Ronge.

Still, though, Haugan says they missed their opportunity on those man advantages.

"Our power play looked out of sorts. We didn't make the right reads, and typically when the game is hanging in the balance if we score one of those goals, it's a different feel."

The Ice Wolves scored three goals in 3:41 midway through the third period to go up 4-1 before Conner Lukan buried a loose puck for the final goal of the game with nine minutes remaining.

"La Ronge is not a bad hockey team. They played to their system and their strengths and we let them hang around," said Haugan.

The loss was Humboldt's first in regulation since an October 21 setback at home against Melville.

Haugan says they will look to regroup on Thursday, with a tough weekend road trip coming at them.

"We will get guys re-focused because we have two difficult opponents coming up this weekend. Two different styles with Weyburn and Estevan."

The Red Wings and Bruins are tied atop the Viterra Division with equal records of 14-6-2 for 30 points. Humboldt has one extra game played with the same point total at a record of 14-7-1-1.
