Following a winless Tuesday in Portage la Prairie, Humboldt curler Dustin Kalthoff and partner Marliese Kasner are seeking a better fate Wednesday at the Canadian Mixed Doubles Olympic Trials.

Kalthoff and Kasner opened the trials with a narrow 6-5 loss to John Morris and Kaitlyn Lawes. They then fell 9-3 to Geoff Walker and Laura Crocker in the nightcap.

The duo will have three chances to get into the win column on Wednesday.

They take on Charley Thomas and Kalynn Park in their first game of the day before meeting Brendan Bottcher and Dana Ferguson in the second game.

In the final game of the day, Kalthoff and Kasner battle Brad Gushue and Val Sweeting.

The trials are an opportunity for doubles specialists, and four person curlers who didn't qualify for the Olympics to earn a second chance to get to South Korea.

Mixed Doubles are in the Olympics for the first time this year.

Kalthoff and Kasner have experience on the world stage, having competed in the 2016 World Championship, where they finished in fifth.
