Humboldt's Dustin Kalthoff is off to the national mixed curling championships for the fourth straight year.

This year him and partner Sherry Anderson punched their ticket through the provincial championships in Regina.

The pair went 7-0 on their way to the title but Kalthoff admitted it wasn't as easy as it looked.

"Our first game we gave up a steal in the first end and it looked questionable but we found our form. We ended up putting together seven quality games and it was a lot of fun."

For the past couple seasons Kalthoff has played with Nancy Martin on the mixed circuit but they decided in the off-season to part ways and it was Kalthoff who reached out to Anderson after hearing her commentary on television during the provincial Scotties that peaked his interest to phone the veteran skip.

Fittingly it was Martin with her new partner Catlin Schneider who they downed 6-4 in the final Sunday afternoon in the Queen City.

Next up is the national championship in Saskatoon at the Nutana Curling Club.

"I've been curling there for a decade and a half," Kalthoff said of the host venue. "It's five minutes from my house, i am on the board of directors, I have a very comprehensive rock book, I know what the rocks and ice are going to do in every spot. It's going to be a huge advantage, we're pretty pumped about it."

Three years ago in Leduc, Alberta Kalthoff lost the national final. The last two years the event has been played in Ottawa. This is the first time he has went through the Saskatchewan bracket. Teams do qualify through the point and tour system.

The national spiel is a 32 team event that will feature the likes of Mike and Dawn McEwen, Rachel Homan and John Morris, as well as Brad Gushue and Val Sweeting. Despite a field loaded with talent Kalthoff does believe they can win but it will be a tough task.

"I am going to go there with the expectation that we are going to put our best effort on the ice every time we step out and try to make each shot individually and kind of let the results fall where they may. The reality is we are playing against the best teams in the world, the best, most well known household players in the country will be there."

The nationals take place from March 31st to April 3rd.
