Eight teams arrived in Humboldt on Friday, as the HCI Mohawks Senior Girls basketball team held their annual invitational tournament.

Along with the host Mohawks, teams from Kenaston, Moose Jaw, Middle Lake, Meadow Lake, Lake Lenore, and Foam Lake were after the tournament title.

Humboldt opened up the slate of games Friday with a thrilling 52-51 win over the Middle Lake Avengers. Kenaston, Moose Jaw Vanier, and Foam Lake were all winners in the first set of games, pushing them to the 'A' side of the bracket. Moose Jaw Central, Middle Lake, Meadow Lake, and Lake Lenore were relegated to the 'B' bracket.

In the semi-finals Saturday morning, the Mohawks could not overcome turnovers and missed free throws en route to a 40-28 loss to Kenaston. That dropped them to the Bronze Medal game, where they would battle the Foam Lake Panthers.

With Foam Lake up by two points at the half, the two sides went back and forth to open the second half, before the Panthers ultimately pulled away, claiming a 43-36 win, and the third place standing.

The B-side saw Moose Jaw Central pace their way to a 52-43 win over the Lake Lenore Lancers in the final.

Capping off the tournament, Kenaston and Vanier took to the hardwood for the championship game.

Largely controlled by Kenaston throughout, Vanier made a late charge before falling 44-41 to finish in the runner-up spot.
