The Humboldt Broncos are in search of a new assistant coach.

Thursday afternoon it was announced hometown product Brayden Klimosko will join former Battlefords Stars coach Kevin Hasselberg with the Drumheller Dragons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

"I'm still young, I don't have really many ties here other than some family here in Humboldt but this might be the time to leave," the 29 year-old explained Thursday night. "I still have the opportunity to live on my own, move to a new community and really it isn't effecting anybody but myself, the time is right."

After working alongside the likes of now Western Hockey League coaches in Dean Brockman and Ryan Smith plus two more years with Darcy Haugan, Klimosko admits working alongside another Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League coach of the year in Kevin Hasselberg is a good step in his own development.

"He's very much skill oriented and he watches a lot of video, I think that's probably two parts of the game that I could really work on as a coach. With me joining him I think that's something I'm really going to look forward to."

Klimosko joined the Broncos when Brockman was still the team's manager, he also won a RBC Cup with Humboldt and Brockman in 2008.

That doesn't include the minor hockey accomplishments, overall he admits the decision wasn't an easy one.

"You hope you have the same passion for Drumheller as you do with Humboldt. In Humboldt here you grew up watching the Broncos, you grew up playing for them,  you grew up winning, watching them win, it's in your blood. Obviously this was a tough decision."

Klimosko will continue to work with the club until he joins the Dragons in August. His contract with Humboldt had expired at the end of the 2016-17 season.
