Eight senior girls basketball teams from across Saskatchewan will converge on Lake Lenore this weekend for the 43rd annual Wade Weseen Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The host Lancers will be joined by the Humboldt Collegiate Institute Mohawks, Middle Lake Avengers, St. Walburg Saints, Moose Jaw Cornerstone, Hague Panthers, Kenaston Kodiaks and the Kinistino Blues.

Lake Lenore Head Coach Curtis Strueby says this year's event will be an amotional one as it's the first to take place since it's founders' passing.

"It's going to be the first one without him so pretty emotional, kind of the way the whole season has been, it's always in the back of your mind. At the same time we're kind of looking forward to it, we're doing a little something for him to honour him."

Games get underway at 3:30 Friday afternoon, the late game Friday is at 8 o'clock, Lake Lenore faces MJ Cornerstone. The schedule picks up again on Saturday morning with the first game tipping off at 8:30. The playoffs will start at 2:30 with the ceremony ahead of that.

"After the 1pm game Saturday we will do a little presentation and short dedication to Wade," Strueby explained. "We do have some things in the plans to honour him, it will be good."

The third place game is slated to tip off at 6 o'clock, the final is 7:30. Last year, the Avengers downed HCI in the final, Kenaston placed third after defeating the Lancers in the bronze medal contest.
