Over the weekend the Steven Laycock rink won their third consecutive Saskatchewan Tankard in Kindersley with a perfect record of 6-0 including a 6-4 win over Shaun Meacham in the final.

St. Gregor's Kirk Muyres, who plays third for the Saskatoon Nutana rink said Monday morning the three-peat is still sinking in.

Kirk Muyres(right) hollers instructions to Dallan and the team's second Colton Flasch during the final.

"It's pretty cool, you never really think about it until it happens. I think somebody said this might be only be the fourth or fifth time in Saskatchewan history it's happened. I don't think it's really sunk in yet but it's pretty cool to go back to the Brier again."

The back to back to back provincial wins hasn't been accomplished since Moose Jaw's Pat Simmons claimed four straight titles from 2005-08. In all the three-peat has in fact been accomplished four different times.

Lead Dallan Muyres delivers a rock during Sunday's Tankard final in Kindersley.

Muyres said they are playing their best curling right now leading up to the national championships. In fact in their six games, they never trailed in a game and they only gave up a steal in one end.

"We have played some good stretches in the past but I think as a unit that's probably the best we've played. It's really reassuring that the work we're putting in that we're seeing the results. Sometimes getting up early in the morning and doing the gym and the practice everyday gets monotonous but to see it pay off and realize we can play that good is pretty exciting to know we're doing the right things."

This year's Brier will take place in Ottawa beginning March 5th. Muyres feels him, along with brother Dallan who plays lead plus their father Lyle, the team's coach can improve on their third place finish at last year's national men's curling championship.

"Obviously the way we played this weekend we feel we can give Saskatchewan a chance to win the Brier. We're going to work hard the next three or four weeks getting ready and give it the best we can and like I said, we certainly think we can do it."

A Saskatchewan rink has not claimed a Brier championship since Rick Folk in 1980.
