The Leroy Curling Club was host to a bonspiel on Saturday, and the proceeds are going back into the club to help improve and upgrade the building and its programs.

Brenda Paetsch, along with her husband Rick, is the backbones of the club. They perform all the maintenance and upgrades to the building, as well as organize and promote the club and its events. Paetsch spoke about the board as well all the ups and downs of running the Leroy Curling Club.

"The board, consisting of Whitney Block, Sheila Lissel, Kari Moore, Elsa Ehlers, Mark Fowler, as well as my husband and I, we all work very hard throughout the year to make sure the events we host are well attended, because in small towns- attendance really counts for a lot. As well, we have been approaching many local businesses about advertising throughout the rink, in order to raise funds to maintain and upgrade our facilities."

Paetsch also mentioned a recent event that raised a large sum of money for the club and the plans for that money.

"Well recently, 10 local young ladies hosted the Ladies Mixed Night Out, and that actually ended up raising about $16,000.00, $8000.00 of which went to the Retirement Community here in Leroy. We plan to use this to purchase Overhead Cameras for the house, as well as TV'S for the viewing area."

There were 24 curlers out competing and having fun, and a few in the heated viewing room. The Leroy Curling Club has a few events and bonspiels coming up and will be a busy place.
