A Humboldt bowler is back from nationals, where he set a new record.

Dylan Manderscheid, a Grade 11 student at Humboldt Collegiate Institute, was competing in the Canadian Youth Challenge in Ottawa.

Manderscheid caught fire during his second last game of the tournament, breaking a record that stood for 15 years.

"I remember the lanes being super quiet. I was going to throw and I turned around and looked behind to see the 12 provinces around one lane and I though 'I got to make this now, I don't want to let anyone down'," he explained of his record breaking shot. "I threw and thought I got a headpin, but got aces and broke the record by three. Everyone went pretty wild after that happened."

Manderscheid bowled a 406 in that game. The week prior, he bowled his first 400 ever, doing so in Humboldt, competing in the Monday Men's League.

The score of 406 helped give Manderscheid the top three game score for any male at the tournament, with an 812.

Overall, Saskatchewan finished in fifth place in the tournament, according to Manderscheid, which is a similar result to last year.

"Every year we get different teams. The top three boys and top three girls," he noted. "Last year we did fairly well. This year we had some early struggles but were able to pull through."

Going forward, he will continue on with youth bowling, as the age limit on that is 19.

After that, Manderscheid says he wants to get into bigger tournaments and also continue to bowl in the men's league.
