An annual highlight of the AAA Midget hockey schedule is the Mac's Tournament in Calgary.

Among the biggest showcases of minor hockey in North America, the tournament is held from Boxing Day to New Years Day each year.

Representing Saskatchewan at this year's tournament were the Tisdale Trojans, Prince Albert Mintos, Swift Current Legionnaires, Saskatoon Contacts and Regina Pat Canadians.

The Trojans boast the most local talent, with five players from the area on the team.

Tisdale went 1-3 at the tournament this year. Kalen Ukrainetz of Wynyard had one goal and one assist over the four games. 

Also on the team are Kaden Kohle of Cudworth, who is the team's second ranked scorer, Wadena defenseman Brett Fogg, and Naicam blueliner Connor Hayward.

St. Brieux's Tanner Martin also plays a prominent role for the team as one of the two goaltenders. Martin has a 9-5 record in regular season play with a .920 save percentage and 2.40 goals against average.

The Mintos finished with a 2-2 record. Dylan Scriven, a former member of Humboldt Minor Hockey, scored one goal in the tournament.

Damon Vanderlinde of Humboldt got in three games for the Mintos as one of their call-ups. Vanderlinde is a regular for the Midget AA Broncos.

On the Swift Current Legionnaires is Wadena defenseman Lucas Ochitwa.

The Legionnaires finished 2-1-1 in Calgary, missing out on the playoffs by one point. Ochitwa had one goal and two assists over four games.

Broncos prospects shine

The Humboldt Broncos will be beaming following accomplishments by a pair of their prospects at the showcase.

Defenseman Adam Herold and his Pat Canadians went on to win the tournament, defeating Red Deer 4-0 in the championship game.

Regina went unbeaten over seven games, posting two wins and two ties in the round robin, before winning all three games in the playoffs.

Herold had one goal and two assists in the round robin.

A thrilling semifinal game led the Pat Canadians to the final, defeating the New York Jr Islanders 2-1 in triple overtime.

The tournament's Most Valuable Player also is in the Broncos system.

Alex Morozoff of the Saskatoon Contacts had 13 points over four games to take the top player honour.

Morozoff was Humboldt's first pick, second overall in the 2016 SJHL Bantam Draft.

A draft pick of the WHL's Red Deer Rebels, the Saskatoon product has 25 points in 27 regular season games for the Contacts.
