Another member of the Humboldt Broncos will move on to university hockey next season.

Netminder Garrett Mason has committed to suit up for the Trinity Western University Spartans based in Langley, British Columbia. Former Bronco and Humboldt product Jarrett Fontaine just finished up his first year with TWU who skates in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League.

In his one and only season in Humboldt, Mason was a workhorse starting 49 games playing the most minutes of any goalie in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. The 20 year-old Okotoks products compiled a 25-20-1 record while sporting a goals-against-average of 2.83 and a save-percentage of .919.

After playing for four different teams in his career, the Okotoks product admitted Humboldt was a key stop.

"Honestly, in my junior career I bounced around a little bit and coming to the Broncos it really made me feel like home."

"Mason was a work horse for us and provided us with quality goaltending this year," Humboldt Head Coach Darcy Haugan stated. "We are extremely excited that he will be attending Trinity Western next year."

Spartans Head Coach Barret Kropf is also excited to land the puckstopper.

"With our all-star goalie graduating this year we knew we had some big shoes to fill. In the SJHL we knew there were two coveted goalies up for grabs in Kristian Stead and Mason. We zeroed in on Garrett to be our guy. In watching Mason this year, he gave the Broncos a chance to win every night. His stats are very impressive and his character and leadership are what we are looking for in Spartans. We are excited to be adding him into our program."

He spent time with Drayton Valley, Spruce Grove and Whitecourt of the Alberta Junior Hockey League during his junior career as well.

The Spartans lost the deciding game three in heartbreaking fashion of the BCIHL final this past season.

You can hear more from Mason below, he spoke with Bolt FM's Clark Stork regarding the commitment.
