The double-A midget Broncos will play their first game of the season Saturday afternoon at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

The reigning Centre Four Hockey League and provincial champions have had one home game but that was played in LeRoy.

Despite the grinding road schedule they still have seven wins in ten starts.

Head Coach Chris Hamilton says they have had tremendous success over the past couple years both winning games and moving kids to higher levels.

"That's our goal as a Minor Hockey AA system here in town, is to move them from AA Peewee to AA Bantam, and move those kids from AA Bantam to AA Midget, onto AAA, and I think this year there are 13 kids that played in the AA system last year, that are gone playing AAA which is what we want in the system, that's what we strive for."

Hamilton says they will take time before face off to recognize their season a year ago.

"We're going to raise both banners, the Provincial banner and the League banner on Saturday, and there are some guys that were on the team last year to come witness that. It's just a reflection on the type of team we had last year, and for the new guys that are around to stand here and watch that, and that's what we're striving for this year."

Hamilton says they have gutted out some tough wins this year but he is excited to be coming home.

"They got to come into our barn, we went into a lot of barns and scraped out some not-so-nice victories, but a victory's a victory, so we did that. They got to come here now and they got to know what it's like to come into Humboldt and try and win here."

They will raise their championship banners to the EPA rafters Saturday afternoon around 3:30 before their game against the Midwest Red Wings.
