The Midget AA Humboldt Broncos are off to a good start.

Brett Simpson had the go-ahead goal on the power play with 5:17 remaining, as the Broncos downed the Saskatoon Riverkings 4-2 on Sunday afternoon.

That was combined with a 6-4 win over the Martensville Marauders on Saturday.

In Sunday's game, Humboldt scored first, with Maguire Scheidt giving the home side a 1-0 lead on a pass from Damon Vanderlinde.

After a scoreless 21 and a half minutes, the Riverkings tied it 1-1 late in the second period on a power play marker.

It didn't take the Broncos long to regain the lead, as following the second intermission, Prescot Senger made it 2-1 Humboldt just 1:22 into the third period.

Saskatoon would once again reply on the man advantage, tying the game 2-2 with 11 minutes left. Despite the goal, the Broncos were able to hold the Riverkings to the one goal on what was a five minute penalty kill.

Carter Sawchuk tacked on an insurance goal with 2:18 remaining on a blast from the point, with Kody Perlett screening the goaltender infront.

Starting goaltender Dawson Cochrane was strong for the Broncos, stopping 35 shots to get the win.

On Saturday, Damon Vanderlinde had a hat trick, helping lift the Broncos to their first win of the season.

Senger, Scheidt, and Brock Morrow had one goal each to contribute to the victory, while Ryland Pronych earned the win in goal.

The Broncos next two games come on the road on October 14 in Warman, and October 15 in Saskatoon against the Steel. Their next home games will be October 21 and 22, hosting the Saskatoon Screaming Eagles, followed by a second meeting with the Steel.
