Minor hockey playoffs are underway and it wasn't the way the Midget or Pee Wee AA Broncos would have liked to start.

Both teams kicked off their opening round of the playoffs on Sunday, February 17th, with both teams failing to grab the upper hand.

The Midget AA Broncos were on the road in Tisdale taking on North East. Austin Berezowki got the Broncos on the board to open up the scoring in the second period, aa the Broncos took a 1-0 lead into the final frame.

In the third period, North East scored the game-tying goal on the powerplay less than five minutes into the frame. Then with just under three minutes remaining added the go-ahead goal which was enough to secure the 2-1 victory.

Drayton Hvidston, a draft pick of the Jr. A Humboldt Broncos, whose rights were traded to La Ronge, picked up two assists on the night for North East.

The Midget AA Broncos will look to even up the series in game two on Wednesday, February 20th back at home inside the EPA.

The Pee Wee Broncos didn't have better luck in the opening game of the playoffs.

They took on the Prince Albert Gene's Cycle Knights on Sunday as well. It was the Knights who jumped out to an early lead scoring two goals in the opening three minutes of the game and took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

There was no scoring in the second, However, The Knights piled on three more in the third period and skated away with a 5-0 victory in game one.

The Pee Wee AA Broncos are back in action against Prince Albert in a must-win game two of the three-game series on Saturday, February 23rd inside the Elgar Petersen Arena.
