For the third straight game, the HCI Mohawks scored on their opening drive, and secured a win to boot, as they held down homefield advantage with a 59-0 win over the Nipawin Bears.

Slotback Jared Giddings opened the scoring in the first two minutes of the game, catching a slant pass over the middle from quarterback Landon Seipp.

"We started the game off good, and then some big plays were brought back by penalty," said the Mohawks pivot following the game. "After that we started rolling and kept the ball moving."

After posting a pair of back to back 14 point games, the Mohawks defence completely shut down the Nipawin attack, yielding no points, and never really allowing the Bears to provide a threat, who failed to scrimmage the ball inside the Humboldt 20 throughout the game.

"The defence played awesome. (Allowing) no points is very hard to do in high school football. Grades 10 through 12 all played awesome," Seipp stated.

Starting only his third game, Seipp had three touchdown passes in the opening half before exiting the game with a 39-0 lead, and handing the ball to back-up Morgan Gobeil.

The second year pivot picked up where Seipp left off, engineering three touchdown drives in the second half, finding Giddings for his third touchdown of the game. Tanner Gerwing and Jacob Zimroz added majors as well.

"Every week we have been improving, and hopefully that's how it goes for the rest of the season," explained Seipp.

Humboldt will look to continue that upward trend on October 2nd, as they welcome in the Tisdale Tornados to Glenn Hall Park.

Having already seen Tisdale on the road - a 62-14 win for the Mohawks, Seipp said there is still work to be done.

"We just gotta be smart, we can't take bad penalties, and we gotta keep our heads in the game," he said as a reference to the number of penalties the team took throughout the game, some quite costly, bringing back touchdown plays.

While the senior team is off until Monday, the junior team consisting of Grade 9 and 10 players will take the road to Tisdale on Saturday for a series of games against the host Tornados, Nipawin, and Melfort. They will then host the junior team from Delisle on Tuesday.
