The HCI Mohawks Football team's 2016 season came to an end yesterday with a 42-20 loss to the Warman Wolverines.

The Hawks, after winning 3 straight to start the season, lost 3 of their last 4 games of the season, including yesterday's loss.

Head Coach Cory Popoff says the team gave it their best effort.

"My thoughts are that I think we played a pretty solid game. We had a little trouble offensively and defensively at the beginning, but it's hard to catch up. We were within striking distance for a while, and then just things happen, injuries happen, and a way we go."

Popoff explains despite the loss in the Quarter Finals, the Mohawks worked hard all year long.

"Players and Coaches, I tell you, we certainly put the time in and I don't think we had our best game today, but you know what, we learned something about the game of Football this year, and we do have a lot of achievements to be proud of, and to get ready for next year."

The Mohawks lost to these same Wolverines last year in the Provincial Semi final as well.

With just under 6 minutes left in the 2nd Quarter, Warman struck again, and after a successful convert, the Wolverines had the lead 21-6.

But then Humboldt's defence stepped up. Tyson Earis had a pick six, and the teams went into the half with Warman with the lead 21-12.

Wolverines started the 3rd Quarter with a quick touchdown, leading 28-12.

HCI drove the length of the field to score, and with a 2 point convert, it became a one possession game.

But Warman was too much, scoring two more touchdowns before the final buzzer rang. 42-20 was the final score.
