The Humboldt Mohawks Sr. Boys volleyball team battled hard throughout the provincial tournament but ultimately ended up losing in the first round of the playoffs to Melville.

The 4A Sr. Boys provincial tournament was served up on November 23rd and 24th in Melville, with Humboldt one of the ten teams competing in the biggest tournament of the year.

During the round-robin portion of the event, the Mohawks were pooled together with Osler VCA, Moose Jaw Vanier, La Loche, and Fort Qu'Appelle.

Their busiest day came on November 23rd, with three of the four scheduled round-robin games taking place. The Mohawks dropped their opening game against Osler VCA two games to none. They then bounced back in the second, defeating La Loche in three sets. The third game on Friday was against Moose Jaw Vanier, who defeated the Mohawks in straight sets.

On Saturday, the Sr. Boys were able to get back in the win column with a two-set victory over Fort Qu'Appelle.

The 2-2 record for the Mohawks had them sitting in third place in Pool B, good enough for a playoff spot. However, they would have to battle the opposing team as well as the crowd, as they were set to take on the host of the tournament.

The first set went the way of the Mohawks as they bumped, set, and spiked their way to a 25-17 victory. In the second set, Melville retaliated with a 25-15 victory of their own. In the third and deciding set, it was as close as it comes, with Melville pulling out a 21-19 victory on their home court.

In the end, it was Moose Jaw Vanier defeating Osler VCA in three sets to be crowned the 4A Sr. Boys provincial volleyball champions.
