Although it wasn't the result the Lloydminster Bobcats didn't want Sunday at the RBC Cup the team is happy with the week long junior "A" tournament they hosted.

That includes former Broncos' standout blueliner Greg Moro.

He said playing in the national championship is something he won't soon forget.

"Definitely having the chance to play in that final game was something special," he said from his home in Edmonton Tuesday night. "The way we finished out that game out shooting them I think 40-something to 20 or whatever it was. You couldn't really ask for much more from the guys, their goalie played outstanding, I will give him that, he deserved that one."

The goaltender of record was Matt Greenfield, who backstopped the West Kelowna Warriors to their first national championship with a 4-0 win.

Many thought the Bobcats would not even get that far, they had gone over a month without playing after losing in the north final of the Alberta Junior Hockey League but a 6-2 win over the top seeded Trenton Golden Hawks in the semi-finals launched them to the title game in their own rink.

Despite the back door entry into the tournament Moro says they felt they belonged.

"The first game with Trenton, I don't think the motivation was there knowing they had already clinched a spot in the semi-finals. I think we knew we could take them, even with West Kelowna we were coming in thinking positive, we thought we had a strong chance and thought we belonged ion that spot."

The game was the Edmonton product's final junior hockey contest for his career which started in Humboldt. Moro will now turn his focus to his career at Clarkson University.

"I have been looking forward to this my whole junior career, ever since my first year there I kind of wanted to play in the NCAA and get my education while playing hockey. There's a lot of excitement, a lot of preparation still needs to be done, it should be fun."

Quill Lake's Connor Odelien was also a member of the Bobcats this season.
