Provincial high school curling championships were held in Saskatchewan Friday and Saturday, with three local teams bringing back some hardware.

The Muenster Cougars boys team claimed a hard fought silver after they fell 6-5 to Saskatoon St. Joseph's.

Coming home with the hammer in the 8th end, the Cougars final shot required a measurement, which counted their stone to tie the game and force an extra end.

St. Joe's was able to score one in the extra to secure the championship.

For the Muenster boys, it was the first provincial curling medal for the school since Kirk Muyres led his team to silver in 2008.

On the way to the final, the Cougars defeated Colonsay in the semi-final, who then went on to take bronze with a 5-2 win over Spiritwood.

In the mixed event, the Naicam Vikings edged Debden 8-7 in an extra end to secure their spot in the provincial final against Hodgeville.

The final was less dramatic for the Vikings, as they rolled to a 11-4 win, securing the school's first provincial championship in curling.

Also at provincials was the Muenster girls team, who made an appearance for the first time since 1979.

They went 1-2 in the round robin, defeating Meadow Lake with setbacks against Maple Creek and Lemberg.
