The home team at this year's Tim Horton's Brier in Regina will have some local faces.

St. Gregor's Kirk and Dallan Muyres and Team Steve Laycock are once again provincial curling champions, after they defeated Colton Flasch 9-7 in Sunday's Tankard final.

Kirk says that they are very much looking forward to the opportunity to play for a Canadian championship in Saskatchewan.

"It's the best. We talk about your first Tankard is maybe the best, but to be able to play a hometown Brier is exciting."

Dallan echoed those thoughts.

"It's something you look forward to every day. Grinding away, practicing, and playing a hometown Brier, wearing green, in Saskatchewan, it's going to be unbelievable."

It is the fourth provincial championship for Kirk and Dallan playing together for Laycock, while Dallan has five titles, having won his first with Laycock in 2011, playing for Pat Simmons.

Simmons was one of the players, along with Muenster's Bruce Korte, that the Muyres brothers saw play a Brier at home, dreaming of their own opportunity one day.

"We grew up watching Bruce Korte play in Saskatoon, and Pat in 2006 in Regina. It's going to be absolutely wild. One of the best weeks of my life."

Korte represented the province in the 2000 and 2004 Brier events.

Following his retirement after last season, Korte returned to the Tankard in a mentor role this year, serving as coach for the Flasch rink, who welcomed Daniel and Kevin Marsh off of Korte's team.

Sunday's win marked the end of a long journey back to the top for Laycock - not only at this year's Tankard, but overall, having lost in the 2017 final.

This year, they were relegated to the 'C' event and qualified in the fourth and final playoff spot.

Despite some round robin struggles, they were able to play their best curling when it mattered most, winning three playoff games to take the title.

The Brier, a 16 team field this year, will run March 3 to 11.
