The Tim Horton's Brier has begun with their qualifying games in Ottawa but once Saturday evening rolls around the nation's best men's curling teams will compete for the nation's top prize.

That includes the Steven Laycock foursome from the Saskatoon Nutana Curling Club. The rink, which features St. Gregor brothers Kirk and Dallan Muyres is heading back for the third straight year to represent Saskatchewan.

The team is red hot coming into the national championship after cruising through the provincial field in Kindersley with a perfect 7-0 record, in fact they never even trailed in any of the contests.

Lyle Muyres, Kirk and Dallan's father is the three time provincial champions' coach. He believes they are in position to take the next step.

"It's interesting, last year I think we finished fourth in the world and this year I believe we're sixth so standings wise we're not better than we were last year but our level of play continues to move forward. I think we're in the most powerful position I've seen this team since I began to work with them four or five years ago."

Last year the rink collected a bronze medal so it really isn't a stretch to think that they can't win the province's first Brier title since Rick Folk in 1980. Especially since the results in the Tankard were so dominating as the eldest Muyres referred to.

"We were well prepared going into that and just seemed to have a really good flow to it and that was probably the most talented Tankard field that I've seen in a long time too which also speaks to the fact that we were playing just as good as we could at the time. If we even come close to that again in Ottawa I believe we will be a force at the end of the week."

They will open the event on Saturday at 6:30 against Northern Ontario. You can follow along through the entire week with us as we will bring you pre and post draw reports all week long with the Crop Production Services Muyres Minute. That will air about 10 minutes prior and following their match-ups.
