After a lengthy nine game tournament, Jayden Bindig and his Wadena curling team are Under 18 provincial champions.

Bindig defeated Spiritwood's Garrett Reddekopp 9-6 in Sunday's final to capture the crown.

It wasn't all easy for Team Bindig, who played two games more than their counterparts did throughout the tournament, and came back from a 4-0 deficit in the final game.

Down four through three ends, Bindig scored four to tie the game in the 4th before stealing one in the 5th end and three more in the 6th end for an 8-4 advantage.

Reddekopp would score two more in the 7th before Bindig sealed the game with one in the last end.

With the win, the team advances to the national championship which takes place April 9-14 in New Brunswick.

They'll cross paths with a familiar face on the Atlantic coast, as Wadena's Dustin Mikush won the provincial title in Alberta.

Mikush and Braden Fleischhacker, who plays second for Bindig, were part of the 2016 team that won the former U18 International Optimist championship.

Bindig is joined by third Nathen Pomedli and lead Ethan Nygaard on the team, which is coached by Verne Anderson, who will soon be participating in his own national championship at the Masters in BC starting April 1.
