The Saskatchewan Winter Games concluded on Saturday in North Battleford, with Prairie Central finishing fourth overall in the medal count.

The district, which features most of the Humboldt area, collected 19 gold, 21 silver, and 18 bronze over six days of competition.

For athletes from Humboldt and area, the second half of the games was highlighted by a gold medal in girls hockey, as Prairie Central defeated South East 3-1.

The team had seven players from the region, including Humboldt's Lauren Hinz, Kiana Leicht, Drew Vipond, and Nicole Girolami, as well as Sydney Martin of Watson, Cassadi Klapak from Lanigan, and Bridgette Vedress of St. Brieux.

In curling, Colonsay's Rebecca Fitzsimmons and Marlyse Steckler finished in fourth place after falling 6-3 in the bronze medal game to Lakeland.

Prairie Central's badminton team came in sixth place, losing a tight final match 5-4 to South West. The badminton format had nine games in a match play style, where you earned a point for each game you won.

The badminton team included Humboldt's Rylan Marianchuk and Seth Schuler, as well as Taevan Athmer and Kara Miskolczi of Englefeld, and Landon Linnen from Raymore.

Cross Country Skiing had three local athletes take part in two events each.

Claire Gullacher of Englefeld kept close to the leaders, finishing fifth in the 5km event, and had an 8th place finish in the 250m sprint.

Taking 6th spot in the boys 5km was Lanigan's Brayden Nivon, while Ethan Fleischhacker of Humboldt placed 13th. In the 250m, Nivon finished 10th, while Fleischhacker right behind in 11th place.

In bowling, Ben Weninger of Humboldt and his team finished fifth overall, while in Special Olympics Bowling, the team of Jessica and Jocelyn Ehr, Ryan Michel and Sam Fisher placed 7th.

The figure skating competition saw Tia Strukoff of St. Brieux finish in 17th place in the Class 1 event. In the Class 2 event, Heidi Klettberg of Archerwill placed 16th, while in Class 3, Wynyard skaters Vada Magnusson and Sydney Hrushka came in 13th and 14th.

Tim Baker of Wynyard competed in Snowboard Cross, where he crossed the finish line in 13th place.
