Former Broncos and Melfort Mustang goaltender Jack Romaniuk is finding his way at the collegiate level.

Now in his second season with Concordia University in Wisconsin, the 22 year-old is becoming more comfortable in net at the NCAA Div. III level.

The Melfort born and raised goaltender was named the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association defensive player of the week over the Remembrance Day long weekend for his play in two wins over Finlandia.

He says after a learning curve filled rookie campaign he's much more sound in year two.

"I got of got the reigns given to me at the start of the year. I've been getting reps in, I've been playing games and kind of relaxing. After last year and getting a feel for the league this year just feels like things are clicking right now which is big, especially for a goaltender."

In his freshman year he played in 17 contests posting a goals against average of .306 and a save percentage of .901. In seven contests this season he is sitting at .298 and .902.

He admits it was a big jump from junior to the college game.

"The guys are just older, a little bit more mature so just adjusting to the speed was a little bit of a difference. I know especially players coming in from junior, first year guys you can tell right off the bat that they find it a bit faster and harder to adjust."

Romaniuk is studying Criminal Justice while in the classroom, he does say that staying in the game whether playing or coaching is still at the top of his list post graduation.

For now he has two more years to play at Concordia but his hometown and Humboldt are always key in his success and he does look back fondly.

"I do, you wake up and all you do is hockey. The guys you meet and everything, you definitely don't regret those days that you spent not being in school and playing junior hockey especially in the communities of Melfort and Humboldt. Loved them both and it was just a good time in my life."

Romaniuk is joined by former Bronco teammate Jon Brumwell at Concordia as well.
