It was a battle of Wadena-based teams in the Richardson Pioneer Men's Fastball League on Sunday in Wadena.

The Rosebud Royals took on the Wadena Wildcats in the two teams season opening games.

After scoring four runs in the third, the Royals possessed a narrow 6-5 lead through five innings. In the sixth, Scott Comfort hit a solo home run that opened the scoring floodgates.

The two teams combined for 20 runs in the final two innings with the Royals winning 19-12.

In Muenster, the Midget AAA Red Sox played out their home opener as they welcomed the Northwest Pirates from Lloydminster.

The Pirates got on the sticks early, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. That, however, would be the last of the scoring for the Pirates throughout the day.

Muenster scored nine straight runs in Game 1, including a solo home run from Brody Frerichs.

Frerichs also started the game on the mound, going four innings while striking out six batters to earn the win. Thomas Bollefer came on in relief for three innings.

In Game 2, the Red Sox strong pitching continued, as 2016 Player of the Year Logan Hofmann got the ball.

After allowing a single on his second hitter faced, Hofmann struck out seven of the next nine batters, including ringing up the side in the top of the second.

Hofmann went five innings in total, whiffing 11 batters, while allowing just the one hit.

Morgan Gobeil took over in relief, allowing just one hit to combine with Hofmann for a two-hit shutout.

The duo also contributed on the sticks, with RBI hits. Kalvin Rueve, Jayden Huls, Rylan Marianchuk and Bollefer had the other runs batted in in the second game.

With the sweep, the Red Sox improved to 4-0 on the season. They host the Saskatoon Giants on Tuesday at 6:00pm for their next game.
