Humboldt Native Sam Schlitz is finally back home from his debut season in the CJFL.

Even though its rare that first year players get to see any field time, Schlitz got to dress for some home games and saw some action on special teams.

He hopes this off season he can bulk up to make the jump to a different position.

"This year a lot of our linebackers are either leaving to go onto CIS or they're leaving the program due to their 5th year eligibility being gone. My hope and goal is to be able to get big enough to start getting into first team reps and playing as a linebacker."

Schlitz said his first year with the Rifles was a great experience.

"It was definitely crazy. There was a lot of fast paced type pf football that I got to be a part of. The crowds were bigger, the stadiums were bigger, just the hype was bigger. We had a great season sadly it just ended on a tough note against a tough team."

The Rifles were eliminated in the 2015 CJFL playoffs by the Saskatoon Hilltops.

Despite the loss Schlitz wishes his fellow HCI Mohawk Alumni who play for the Hilltops luck as they look to capture the Canadian Bowl.

"Good luck to Tristan Hering as they're moving onto the finals for the Canadian Bowl. Good luck to Connor Guillet and all those HCI Alumni, I wish them the best of luck."

Schlitz will spend the winter in Humboldt and head back to Winnipeg for Spring training.
